In 2015, my alcohol addiction peaked and took a toll on my health and relationships. I literally tried everything, but nothing would work.

One day, a friend recommended me Soberlink. First, I was hesitant to try something new. Why would this work when everything else has failed? Still, I tried it. And I am so glad I did..Soberlink was so easy to use. Easier than I initially though. I trusted my family to be my accountability partners, and they would received the text message.

I wouldn’t want to disappoint them (again), and I could track everything through Soberlink. The device doesn’t do miracles, but it was a key factor on my way to sobriety. I am glad to say I am now over 3 years Sober! Thanks so much Soberlink.

Not all cases using Soberlink require a professional monitor to oversee and manage the monitoring process. Cases that do not need a professional monitor are cases where the parties have good communication and a sense of shared power that equates to genuine cooperation. Cooperation is atypical of families struggling with alcoholism. Often people overestimate how cooperative they actually are because cooperation is a value that most of us like to think we hold.

Michigan courts routinely order anyone who has been convicted of an alcohol related offense to refrain from the use of alcohol. It’s also common for a person just accused of drunk driving, before any conviction, to be ordered not to drink alcohol. In order to enforce these orders the courts use several means of alcohol consumption detection. In this article you’ll learn how Soberlink works, its cost, and why it’s more effective than SCRAM.

Typically, courts will order that a defendant must submit to random breath tests at a JAMS location or it will order that a defendant must wear a SCRAM tether that will regularly take a sample of a person’s sweat usually every 30 minutes in order to detect alcohol. The SCRAM tether is invasive and must be worn on the body at all times – so it’s not the most practical option. And having to drive to a specific location for testing every day is extremely inconvenient.

SOBERLINK on the other hand allows for remote alcohol monitoring and combines the convenience of a Breathalyzer with the ability to not have a device secured to your body.

Alcohol cessation programs often require participants to stay off the booze entirely. This may be voluntary or required by a court order, but the task of watching for slip-ups can be both difficult and counter-productive. Under court mandated cessation, typically randomly assigned visits are required of offenders, but people tend to take risks knowing that there’s only a small chance that a test will be required. Moreover, the burden of testing can be substantial if the testing center is far from home and frequent visits are required.

We received a new device to review called SL2 from Soberlink, a company out of Cypress, California, that makes it easy to regularly screen people for alcohol use. We spent a couple weeks checking it out and pretending to quit while having limited self control. It was certainly an interesting experience that opened our eyes to the difficult reality of alcohol cessation programs and how technology can help overcome many of these challenges.

At its core the SL2 is a breathalyzer with a built in camera that is intended to be used on a regular basis to confirm sobriety throughout each day. A schedule is typically set by a therapist or parole officer and the user has to follow it strictly to stay in compliance. We had a three times daily regimen to follow, which included morning, afternoon, and night tests. To make sure that the user doesn’t forget, the system sends out reminder text messages 15 minutes prior to a scheduled test and then follow up warnings if a test is not performed.
